Are you sick of trying to get your manuscript accepted by agents? Are you tired of the slush pile?  Las Vegas' newest publishing house is looking for local authors. If you have a manuscript you dream of publishing, Arts District Publishing might be for you.

OUR PROMISE AND MOTTO: YOU DON'T PAY US. WE PAY YOU.

We offer book contracts that are fair to the author.

We have freelance editors who will assist with developmental and copy editing when needed.

We have a freelance cover artist to create a perfect book cover.

We publish your book as an e-book and print on demand book, and, if appropriate, an audiobook and hard cover book.

We focus on authors who live in Las Vegas.

We are not a pay to publish service. You don't pay us, we pay you.

We are not a "hybrid publisher." You don't pay us, we pay you.

We never charge you for: editing, marketing, cover, etc. Again, we are not a hybrid or vanity publisher. These costs come out of royalties and if the book loses money, we lose money. You don't. You keep the advance no matter what. Again, you don't pay us, we pay you.

While you are free to contact our freelance staff, we do not sell their services. They are, however, very good, If you decide to publish on your own, feel free to hire them.

We NEVER work with agents.

Once upon a time, a gentleman who lives in the Arts District of Las Vegas wrote a novel. He toiled over the manuscript for years. He hired copy and developmental editors to help make it perfect. He hired a proofreader to check and double check the work. He even hired a cover artist, to make that perfect cover.

Then, he entered Submission Hell.

Submissions were made to 180 agents. And each submission was such a chore! What are the two novels most similar to yours? Give me your elevator pitch! Your pitch letter! Your blog, twitter, and fifteen other social media sites following! What's your marketing strategy? If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be? Submit the first ten pages, or first chapter, or a synopsis, or a synopsis and a chapter, or no pages but a synopsis, or.... You get the picture. Every agent had hoops to jump through-lots and lots of hoops. But they were all different hoops. (Some on fire, Las Vegas style, some not.) So the gentleman jumped through all the hoops. Then he waited. And waited. And waited.....

Most agents didn't even bother to reply. And of the few that did reply, sometimes months later, all replies except two were rejections. Two manuscripts were requested but, alas, they too were rejected. Then direct submissions to publishers began. The manuscript rejections from the publishers were bad. But the acceptances were even worse. 

The publishers who accepted the gentleman's manuscript all wanted money in order to publish his novel. Lots and lots of money. So, the gentleman decided that, if he was going to spend money to publish, he would just start his own publishing company, publish his novel and maybe help a few other authors along the way.

And that is how Arts District Publishing was formed.

Our focus is on e-book and print on demand books. And those are pretty easy to set up. Yes, we will do audiobooks and hard covers. But those are expensive (You don't pay us, we pay you.) and we will evaluate with each author when or whether we will produce the book in these media forms. Remember, we are paying for everything. So if there is a developmental or copy edit being done, we are paying for it. Same with marketing. Same with everything! (You don't pay us, we pay you.)

Everything we do, you could do on your own. But it will take time and money. If self-publishing is the right thing for you, go for it! It's your manuscript and your dream. And you can even contact our freelancers on your own (and pay them on your own) if that is the right thing for you. Whatever you feel most comfortable with is the way you should proceed. 

Also, we don't promise to accept every manuscript submitted. I suspect we will probably publish no more than a half dozen manuscripts per year the first year or two. We are a work in progress.
